President Muhammadu Buhari receives Award for Peace in Africa

For his role in promoting the sustenance of peace in the African continent, especially regular counsels and conciliatory meetings, President Muhammadu Buhari has earned an award in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

He will be conferred the “African Award for Strengthening Peace’ on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

To this end, Buhari is billed to travel to Mauritania on Monday, to receive the award, the presidency has disclosed through a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

According to the itinerary, the award is expected to be conferred on President Buhari by the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum.

The forum is an assembly of leaders established in 2014 to explore contemporary ways to embrace inclusive citizenship, imbibe lasting peace, and work towards a safer and more sustainable world for everyone.

Buhari will seize the event to participate in the Programme of the Third Forum of the African Conference for Peace.

UAE Fatwa Council, international Fatwa authorities discuss cooperation

ABU DHABI, 8th December, 2021 (WAM) — The UAE Fatwa Council has organised a meeting between Fatwa authorities and organisations from around the world, on the sidelines of the eight meeting of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Communities, which concluded yesterday in the capital, Abu Dhabi.

In his welcome speech during the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, President of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Communities and Chairman of the UAE Fatwa Council, highlighted the importance of such meetings, thanks to their key role in promoting cooperation between Fatwa authorities around the world, and encouraging coordination in new jurisdictional matters.

Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Derei, Director-General of the UAE Fatwa Council, explained the role of the council, phases of its development, its organisational structure, along with its competencies and plans.

He also noted the council’s previous achievements and highlighted its future vision, which is based on the UAE Government’s vision for the upcoming 50 years.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdulkareem Al Khassawneh; Grand Mufti of Jordan, Dr. Osama Sayyid Al-Azhari; Egyptian President’s Adviser On Religious Affairs; and Prof. Dr. Koutoub Sano, Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, along with other scholars and muftis.

Indonesian President wins Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace Award

ABU DHABI, 3rd November, 2022 (WAM) — President Joko Widodo of the Republic of Indonesia on Wednesday won the 2022 Imam Hasan bin Ali International Peace Prize presented by the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, President of the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, presented the award to the Indonesian Vice President Dr. Marouf Amin, who accepted it on behalf of the President of Indonesia at a reception held at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking on the occasion, bin Bayyah said, “It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, to offer the 2022 Imam Hasan bin Ali International Peace Prize to President Widodo in recognition of his commitment and contribution towards the remarkable efforts Indonesia has demonstrated in spreading peace and tolerance both regionally and internationally. The great nation of Indonesia is a paradigm for coexistence, enriched through its diverse ethnicities and faiths living in conviviality side by side.”

For his part, the Indonesian Vice President expressed his gratitude for receiving this award on behalf of President Widodo and the people of Indonesia and remarked that this is a sign of honour for both the Indonesian President’s efforts and the significant position that Indonesia enjoys in the promotion of tolerance and coexistence.

The Imam Hasan bin Ali International Peace Prize is an annual honour awarded by the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace since 2015 as a tribute to practical initiatives and academic excellence in promoting peace and coexistence. Past recipients have included community leaders, scholars, and grassroots workers.

H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha Meets His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah

On the sidelines of his participation in the African Conference on the Promotion of Peace in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), met with His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah, President of the Abu Dhabi Forum for the Promotion of Peace, on 16 January 2023.
On this occasion, H.E. the Secretary-General paid tribute to His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah and the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace for their contribution to the promotion of the values of dialogue, moderation, peaceful coexistence and tolerance.
The Chairman of the Forum, for his part, commended the OIC’s contribution to the African Peace Conference.
Both sides stressed the need to join efforts in order to achieve a peaceful resolution of the crises and conflicts in some OIC Member States.
