Shaykh Bin Bayyah meeting Pope Francis

Chairman of UAE Fatwa Council Says Life Is a Gift from God That Should Not Be Violated

Chairman of the UAE Fatwa Council Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah met on Monday, October 29th the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis.

The meeting took place in the Vatican as part of signing the “Abrahamic Family faiths’ stance on ending life causes” document, which represents the three Abrahamic religions and seeks to stress human dignity and how it should not be violated by medical intervention or any other justification.

During his speech, Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah asserted that the meeting took place to cooperate in “doing good.” He added that protecting the human soul is one of the key goals of Islamic Sharia and a common value of the three religions.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah said that the Abrahamic religions should remind others of the importance of “life,” which has been violated by several sinners, either by resorting to abortion before giving birth or by adopting terrorism and war.

“Our meeting today represents a new step in the common religious action, as it is the first time the three religions gather to consolidate their agreement on the values and basics and shift them into a more practical approach,” said Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah.

“We all feel the need to fulfil our roles, given our positions and influences, to restore humanity’s ethical conscience that revive values of mercy, relief, cooperation, and compassion,” he added.

Islam asserts that God is the Creator who gave life and dignity to the human being, Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah pointed out, stressing that the latter has no right to take that from either him/herself or others. He added that the UAE always seeks to uphold the common values of the Abrahamic religions and all the humanitarian values that aim to realise good and happy coexistence.
